Developed for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Johannesburg, this collection of sculptural paper handbags responded to a circus-inspired theme through a series of accessories that sat somewhere between fashion object and character study.
The collection drew on the circus as a place where individuality is expected rather than concealed. Each handbag was developed as a distinct piece while remaining part of a coherent collection.
Through folding, layering and construction of paper, it became possible to create forms that challenged familiar ideas of proportion and volume without losing their relationship to fashion.
Floral structures, geometric forms and oversized volumes introduced variation across the collection, allowing each piece to carry its own character while remaining visually connected to the whole.
Presented together at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Johannesburg, the collection demonstrated how a single material could support a broad range of sculptural possibilities without losing a consistent visual identity.
