Role: Art Direction

This series examines the shifting boundaries between self and other.

Developed under the title Folie à Deux, the work explored the ways in which intimacy can blur distinction without collapsing difference.

When I first heard the title Folie à Deux and learned who the second subject would be, I assumed the work would revolve around contrast. We came from different worlds, carried ourselves differently, and occupied space in different ways. The obvious approach would have been to amplify those differences.

Instead, I kept looking for the places where they began to dissolve.

Throughout the series, I avoided assigning fixed roles to either figure. A tailored suit carried a different weight depending on who wore it. Exposure shifted from image to image. Neither woman existed to explain or complete the other.

Black and white became an important decision. Without colour, attention moved towards gesture, silhouette, composition and the restraint of the modernist setting. Expression remained understated, allowing posture, distance and placement to shape the relationship between the figures.

I never wanted to define who they were to one another. Lovers, mirrors, rivals or accomplices all remain possible. The photographs are less concerned with providing answers than with allowing those possibilities to exist at the same time.
